With offices and studio located on the 9th floor of the state Capitol building in Tallahassee, FL, The Florida Channel (TFC) produces programming covering all three branches of state government, and is Florida’s primary source for live, unedited coverage of the Governor and Cabinet, the Legislature, and the Supreme Court. TFC programming is carried by PBS stations throughout Florida as one of their digital sub-channels and delivered statewide by satellite to other program distributors. Live streaming of as many as (14) simultaneous events and archived content are also available online at thefloridachannel.org.

Responsibilities

  • Research information to be used in programs and program segments, compiles information for graphics or other visual elements included in a program or program segment, selects bites and video for packages, logs tapes and meetings, covers events as well as assists the producer with numerous duties required to produce Capitol Update.
  • Provides production and administrative support such as running teleprompter for programs and answering phones/making calls.
  • Serves as Grip for production crews working on segments for CU, Florida Crossroads and TFC: helps with set up and pack up equipment; helps reporters gather information needed to conduct interviews.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, along with one year of experience
  • Strong writing and research skills.
  • Experience writing on deadline.
  • The ability to think creatively and carry out specific program concepts after receiving general guidance – but with limited supervision.
  • Attention to detail; effective time-management and organizational skills.
  • The ability to work as part of a team on tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal with fast-changing situations are necessary.
  • Proof of a valid Florida or Georgia class E or GA driver’s license or the ability to obtain license upon hire.

Preferred

Familiarity with Florida Government.

Experience with iNews and Avid.

Pay Plan

This is an OPS/temporary Job.

Schedule

A minimum of 30 hours weekly expected. Position is required to work a set schedule on Tuesday – Friday from 10:00 am – 5:30 pm. However, flexibility is needed as weekdays (Monday included) and times may vary to meet department needs. Occasional weekend and OT work might be required.

 

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
