The Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB) Communications & Public Relations Department has a full-time job opening for a Digital & Social Media Specialist

 

Salary Range

12 Month: $34,186.88 to $37,186.88 annually. This range is inclusive of verified experience and education.

 

Hours

Monday through Friday, 80 hours biweekly; schedule may vary.

 

Your Specific Responsibilities

The incumbent in this position reports to the Executive Director of Communications & Public Relations and is responsible for implementing the digital communications strategies and initiatives that help promote and enhance the reputation of FSDB. Coordinates, designs, and deploys social media campaigns and content, ensuring tie-in to school website processes. Creates and shares engaging daily content, including text, images, and videos that promote the FSDB brand across platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Manages social media posting schedule, considering insights, web traffic, engagement metrics and trends. Serves as a resource on social media for school leaders. Conducts interviews for news articles. Ensures continuous monitoring of social media traffic, performance, reviews, and feedback, including reporting processes. Ensures all social media channels are updated and consistently maintained. Facilitates engagement through online conversations and responses to inquiries. Collaborates with other departments to write and edit social media-related content and graphics for the individual school channels in an accurate, timely and compelling manner to help maximize reach and engagement. Stays on top of current social media trends and evaluate how the company can best participate. Exercises careful judgment on sensitive matters and seeks consultation as needed.  Assists the team in taking photographs for digital and print marketing purposes. Ensures accessibility for all photos, videos and images. Assists in maintaining photo and video galleries. Captures and edits visual content for multiple platforms. Performs retouching and image adjustments after shoots. Produces photography in various methods including printed/digital media. Delivers final product to various sources including internal and external customers. Carries out additional duties associated with the above responsibilities. Reviews graphics requirements for the design of various publications and makes appropriate recommendations. Reviews graphics and text content for print and digital marketing purposes, including but not limited to print and digital ads, webpages, social media posts, marketing displays, newsletters, brochures, manuals, and presentations. Assists in content marketing strategies that reflect the organization’s vision, mission and strategic goals. Collaborates with team and campus departments to identify opportunities for sharing student and staff achievement and success stories across multiple platforms. Assists in print and digital content for various stakeholders and distribution channels (e.g., organizational brochures, fact sheets, event materials, training resources, infographics, reports and related items). Additional duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of principles, practices, standards, and techniques for graphic design, photography, audio/videography, and live streaming technologies.

Knowledge of aesthetic design concepts.

Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization and Google Analytics.

Skills in using Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office 365, Canva and Smore.

Skills in English writing, editing and proofreading using Associated Press style.

Skills in social media planning, content preparation and engagement analysis.

Skills in the areas of shooting٫ lighting٫ and printing.

Skills in applying photographic best practices and techniques

Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with campus personnel that supports a cooperative work environment and positive engagement with stakeholders.

Ability to handle multiple priorities and projects under pressure and within tight timelines.

Ability to independently carry out work assignments.

Ability to conduct interviews for news articles.

Ability to perform duties per federal and state laws and regulations and organizational strategic plan and operational policies.

Ability to complete training and administer skills acquired during CPR.

Ability to attain sign language proficiency level in accordance with FSDB OPP 1.24.

 

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years of professional experience in news reporting, editing, public relations, public information, advertising, marketing, mass communications or journalism.

A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course of study in communications or English can substitute for one year of the required experience.

Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Adobe Creative Suite proficiency – Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom and Photoshop.

Microsoft Office 365 proficiency – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams.

Advanced English (writing) proficiency.

Excellent computer skills and an understanding of website technology and user interface best practices.

 

Condition of Employment

Applicants under consideration for employment at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind will be required to complete background investigation.  Fingerprints will be taken and sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a background check of your criminal history record(s) at the state and national level.

 

Sign Language Requirements

Applicants who are selected for hire will be required to attain a Survival Plus proficiency in sign language, within four years of hire.

FSDB is a state public school available at no cost to eligible pre-K and K-12 students who are deaf/hard of hearing, blind/visually impaired or deafblind, including boarding and transportation services.
