With offices and a studio located on the 9th floor of the state Capitol building in Tallahassee, FL, The Florida Channel (TFC) produces programming covering all three branches of state government and is Florida’s primary source for live, unedited coverage of the Governor and Cabinet, the Legislature, and the Supreme Court.  TFC programming is carried by PBS stations throughout Florida as one of their digital sub-channels and delivered statewide by satellite to other program distributors. Live streaming of as many as (14) simultaneous events and archived content are available online at thefloridachannel.org.

Responsibilities

Operates various broadcast equipment and software – including but not limited to graphics generators, master control switchers, video servers, automation system, non-linear editor, router, intercom, website content management system, and traffic database – to prepare, produce, transmit and archive television programs/segments. Troubleshoots issues when they occur.

Updates graphic templates for use during live and recorded productions. Researches content for graphic templates, suggests new content, and updates reference materials. Selects and adds appropriate graphic templates to productions in real time. Communicates with directors and legislative staff during live productions.

Ingests, edits, and labels programming with appropriate terminology and metadata. Anticipates and prepares for short notice program changes. Updates the schedule of programming on various platforms. Promotes programming on social media. Monitors programming for video/audio quality and closed captioning. Updates database of program information.

Serves as a crew member for various Florida Channel programming; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate degree in a related area and three years of related work experience. (Note: or vocational/technical training in a related area and three years of related work experience)

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, hours may vary depending on department needs and may include weekends & evenings.
  • Ability to multitask, troubleshoot, and carry out assignments with limited supervision.
  • Must be capable of learning specialized software and have an aptitude for operating electronic equipment.
  • Must be able to prioritize, multi-task, troubleshoot, communicate effectively, adapt to change, work in a fast-paced environment, and meet deadlines.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, computer literate, technologically curious, and proactive.
  • Ability to use correct grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in close proximity to others.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position to include, but not be limited to, sitting for extended periods, standing, bending, reaching, dexterity, etc.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers and other departments in a professional manner.

Soft Money Funded Position

This position is time-limited based on soft money funding, with renewal contingent upon available funds and the needs of the University.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 9:00 am-5:30 pm; however, hours will vary and may include weekends and evenings. Flexibility is required

Criminal Background Check

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
