Job Summary/Description:  

WJHG has a rare news management opening for an Executive Producer. If you are a strong writer who is creative and willing to think out of the box to create award winning shows, then this is the job for you! This person will be a key member of our news management team, in charge of training, mentoring, and shaping our producers to build daily newscasts in a competitive but fun work environment. This is a great entry level management job for a producer looking to take the next steps in an exciting career!

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

– Ability to lead and train news producers to create award winning newscasts.
– Daily supervising content for clarity, fact-checking, and creativity.
– Assist with assignments, guiding reporters on stories and pitching story ideas daily.
– Able to make quick decisions and handle breaking news calmly and as a team leader.
– Must be a team player! Able to take direction from other news managers and be a strong role model to new producers and MMJs.
– Ability to brainstorm new ideas, embrace new technology to improve shows, and have competitive desire to win.
– Must be flexible to fill in for other producers as needed and other duties as assigned by management.
– Able to write for web and social and assist with digital broadcasting needs on a regular basis.
– Will be trained to fill in for News Director or other managers in their absence, meeting station goals and leading a team with positive encouragement.

Qualifications/Requirements:

– Minimum 2-3 years experience as a producer in a broadcast newsroom.
– Strong copy editing skills.
– Solid understanding of AP style writing.
– Must have sound ethical news judgment.
– Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field.
– Proven leadership ability.
– Strong technical skills, experience with ENPS a plus.
– Non-linear editing skills, and prior experience creating and posting scripts to web and social platforms.
