Gannett, the largest local-to-national news network in the United States is seeking a creative, full-time, remote (U.S.) Digital Designer to be a part of the Customer Retention department for USA TODAY and the USA TODAY Network.

In this fast-paced environment, the Digital Designer will report directly to the Customer Retention Art Director and work collaboratively with the creative team on retention and marketing initiatives across the network.

The Digital Designer will produce a variety of digital assets for social, on-site, email marketing, and other promotional channels, and provide the team with actionable input to elevate and push our customer-first creative boundaries.

About you:
You have a demonstratable technical mastery in graphic design principles and industry-standard software. You’re a creative, design-first thinker and love solving design problems in unique ways. You have high creative standards—your designs have meaning and purpose behind them and you’ll do the right thing to uphold their integrity. You’re willing to push and stretch creative boundaries while staying within guidelines. You love influencing people with your design.

Experience:

  • 4 years minimum of production graphic design (agency preferred but not necessary)

Responsibilities:
Overall, you will be working within brand guidelines and campaign needs to craft compelling and visually stunning assets—from start to finish—geared towards inspiring customer engagement and retention.

  • Convey a customer-first mentality through creative visual concepts (static and/or motion design) that will be executed across multiple platforms and channels: social media, on-site, email etc.
  • Proactively participate in design brainstorming and conceptualization discussions.
  • Clearly present ideas and concepts, articulate feedback, design ideas and concepts for review.
  • Use feedback to refine and iterate concepts into stunning, production-ready assets.
  • Demonstrate creative problem-solving skills: ability to work through a challenge to completion
  • Ensure brand consistency across all assets, while pushing creative boundaries

 Required skills and proficiencies:

  • Extensive knowledge of Adobe creative suite—Photoshop and Illustrator a must: After Effects and XD are a plus.
  • Basic animation skills e.g. animated titles and moving objects
  • Problem solver with strong attention to detail—necessary to uphold brand standards—with excellent organizational, analytical, oraland written communication skills
  • Must be able to work seamlessly in a remote, collaborative team environment to meet deadlines.

Additional nice-to-have skills and proficiencies:

  • Advanced animation skills e.g. special effects like glowing, pulsing etc.
